Why Does Ethnicity Matter - OtherHalf - Chinese Stem Cell Initiative

Why Does Ethnicity Matter?

A patient’s best chance of finding an unrelated stem cell donor is within his/her own ethnic group.

However, ethnically diverse donors like Chinese are greatly underrepresented in the global stem cell registry. Although Chinese make up 19% of the world population, only about 7% of the registered donors in the global stem cell registry are of Chinese origin. This makes it very difficult for Chinese patients to find a match.
